After defeating Manchester United in midweek in the third round of the EFL Cup the Hammers now face the Red Devils’ city-rivals Manchester City in the next round.

The Citizens have an incredible record in the EFL Cup recently, having won the competition four years on the trot and the Hammers will have their work cut out for themselves in the fourth round.

Areola is confident that the Hammers have a side that are rich in quality and have the hunger to win any competition they take part in.

Speaking to Standard Sport, Areola said: “We have the quality and a good group, good atmosphere and in our minds we have the same objective — to win and go as far as possible in every competition.

“We are trying to give everything every day during the week to perform.”

The Hammers goalkeeper highlighted the importance of knowing that to win a competition a side have to go through some of the best teams and added that the Hammers are not shying away from the challenge Manchester City will pose.

“If you want to win something you have to beat every team”, Areola added.

“We are competitors and we want to win and against big teams.”

West Ham have never won the EFL Cup, with their last domestic cup coming in the 1979/80 season , and manager David Moyes’ side will be hoping to change that fact.
