The 20-year-old winger joined League One club Fleetwood from non-league outfit Hyde United on a two-year deal in the summer transfer window.
Lane, who has contributed to two goals from three League One games this term, is proud of his non-league roots and has explained that a lot of players take a similar pathway in modern football.
The Northern Irishman is of the view that coming through a non-league club is a genuine pathway, but stressed that many players are left undiscovered in non-league.
Lane also name-checked Everton’s Godfrey, West Ham’s Antonio and Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy and suggested that he wants to follow in their footsteps by making it big after playing non-league football.
“There are too many players in non-league that haven’t been discovered yet“, Lane told Fleetwood’s in-house media.
“I’ll fly the non-league flag as long I need to because it’s been great for me and it’s been great for every single player that has come through like Michael Antonio, Ben Godfrey, Jamie Vardy.
“It’s a different pathway now and a lot of lads are coming through that way.”
Having earned a move to third tier club Fleetwood in the summer, Lane will be looking to continue his development and climb his way up the ladder.
