Following a five-game run without a win, Stevenage got their promotion bid back on track with a win against AFC Wimbledon over the weekend and notched up another win when they beat Doncaster Rovers at home on Tuesday night.

Stevenage are in third on 76 points and are still very much in with a chance to get promoted to League One this season.

Evans’ side have been poor on the road this season, winning just five of their 20 games and they have a massive trip to Mansfield Town on Saturday.

The Stevenage boss conceded that the players are well aware that they are in for a tough fight against a Mansfield Town team who are also chasing promotion this season.

He stressed that Clough is a top manager with a good set of players but Evans insisted that even has a good team and they will have to work hard to get a result at Field Mill.

Evans said on Stevenage’s official YouTube channel: “We know it’s going to take a monumental performance against a really good manager in Nigel and the passionate support they have.

“And more importantly really good players.

“We have got a good manager, passionate supporters and we have got really good players.

“We will go there and we know how tough it is going to be because I have been manager of that football club.”

Evans managed Mansfield Town previously and is aware of how difficult they can be to beat when their home fans are behind the team.

“They are a special football club, especially with the supporters behind them.”
