He has been available on a free transfer this summer after his contract at PSV Eindhoven expired at the end of last season.

 

The 28-year-old winger is set to join German side Mainz after undergoing a medical today.

 

 

 

However, he was also linked with a return to England where he had a few clubs interested in signing him as well.

 

It has been claimed Birmingham considered snapping up the former Villa winger on a free transfer this summer.

 

 

Blues showed an interest in him but ultimately decided against signing El Ghazi in the last transfer window.

 

The former Ajax star was also offered to Manchester United, who have an issue with right wingers in their squad,

 

 

However, the Premier League giants showed no inclination to even consider signing him as an emergency option.

 

A move to Saudi Arabia was also discussed but El Ghazi is now on his way to German club Mainz.
