Paul Warne’s side have made a decent start to their League One campaign amid their hopes of seeing themselves in promotion battle this term.

Derby went up against Notts County away from home in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night and ran out 2-1 winners.

Notts County boss Williams is happy with how his side did given he rates Derby as ridiculously good and admits they did rip through his defensive unit at times.

I am really happy with the performances of the players”, Williams told Notts County’s in-house media.

The opposition just ridiculously good and really could have been out of sight at half-time.

But the ‘keeper made some brilliant saves, he got man of the match for a reason because he kept us in the game and kept it competitive because of what he did in the first half in particular and also the guys in front were just throwing their bodies in front of the ball.

But Derby tore through us for a few times because they are so good, so much quality and experienced manager.

So I am really, really happy because then we stayed in the game when maybe it could have been over.

And then in the second half, I think we caused them a lot of problems and just the attitude and application of the players was brilliant and I am so happy with them.

Derby have now won both their EFL Trophy group games to sit comfortably at the top of the table, with Lincoln City and Wolves Under-21s the other two teams in the section.
