Winks was bought in by Enzo Maresca from Tottenham Hotspur to strengthen the Leicester City midfield this summer.

The 27-year-old defensive midfielder has made an excellent start to his Leicester career and has established himself as a key player in the starting line-up.

Piper hailed Leicester’s signing of Winks from Tottenham this summer as a massive coup and is of the opinion that the midfielder is too good for the Championship.

The ex-Foxes star also thinks that Winks is better than some players playing regularly for top clubs in the Premier League.

“Literally every game he has played in that I have watched this season, you could give him man of the match”, Piper said on BBC Radio Leicester

“There will be people who are saying tonight it should be Winks and it could have been with the level of that guy’s performance, in this league especially.

“He is basically too good for the league and it is a massive coup for Leicester City to sign him.

“I really do think that he is better than a lot of central midfielders currently starting week in week out in the Premier League and around in the top leagues.

“He is that good.”

Winks has started all 13 league games for Leicester this season and has picked up four cautions in the process.

With the Foxes in command at the top of the Championship table, Winks could be in line for a quick return to the Premier League.
