Last season, Warne’s Derby progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup before suffering a defeat to Premier League outfit West Ham United.

Derby will travel to Gresty Road to begin this season’s FA Cup campaign against Crewe Alexandra this weekend.

Warne admitted that he is not naive enough to believe that Derby will win the FA Cup, but stated that they will not take the tournament lightly.

The Rams boss added that the FA Cup gives an opportunity for his fringe players to get some more game time and stressed that they will not head into the tournament to just add up the numbers.

“I mean, I am not naïve enough to sit here and think we are going to win it, so I do not want to poo poo on any fans, but I just think a good run is a good thing”, Warne told Rams TV.

“I think even more so when everyone’s fit; it is a good way to let other people play to a certain extent, but I will go very strong.

“I will not go intending to make the numbers up or anything like that.”

Crewe are unbeaten in their last two games at Gresty Road against Derby and it remains to be seen whether the Rams will be able to change that record.
