Plymouth Argyle caretaker boss Neil Dewsnip believes that Southampton are a Premier League-size club with a quality squad, but stressed the Pilgrims are not afraid to take them on.
Saints are on a 16-game unbeaten run and they have managed to climb up to third place in the Championship table.
Now Russell Martin’s Southampton side are set to welcome Plymouth Argyle, who they narrowly managed to beat at Home Park 2-1 with a Che Adams injury-time goal early this season, to St. Mary’s on Friday.
Dewsnip admitted that Plymouth have a daunting task at their hands on Friday, but insisted that his side do not fear Southampton at all.
The Plymouth interim boss believes that Southampton are a Premier League-level club with the same squad and budget as a top flight side.
“We understand the reality”, Dewsnip was quoted as saying by Plymouth Live.
“It’s a daunting task but what I would say is we came so close [in the defeat at Home Park] so we don’t fear them.
“We know we can go and play up against them but we are incredibly respectful.
“They have got a Premier League football club, with a Premier League budget, with Premier League players.
“It’s exciting to go and take the challenge, and we will go and do that.”
Southampton have been undefeated since their last defeat in September and Martin’s side will be determined to end December by continuing their unbeaten run by defeating Plymouth.
