Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has indicated that a good January transfer window could be the difference between survival and relegation for his side this season.
Rohl took charge of Wednesday in October and the Yorkshire side have looked better under the German despite being 23rd in the Championship standings.
Wednesday have put in some solid performances and have produced some unexpected results but they still remain one of the favourites to get relegated to League One this season.
The Wednesday coach is pinning his hopes on the winter transfer window and believes a few good signings will be a cause for optimism at Hillsborough.
However, he conceded that even a good window will not automatically mean survival and he is expecting the relegation battle to be decided in the final weeks of the season.
Rohl told The Athletic: “We need some good transfers in this window.
“If we get them in, we can look ahead with optimism.
“But even then, it will go down to the wire [the battle to avoid relegation].”
The Owls will likely have to improve their form on the road to stay in the division, with just one win in 12 away matches in the Championship so far this term, along with ten losses.
