Former Championship striker Iwan Roberts admits that Ipswich Town have performed magnificently so far this season, but insists that the Tractor Boys will not be able to finish in the top two.
Ipswich have begun the season in an impressive manner and are second in the Championship table with 55 points from 26 games.
However, their recent form has taken a dip and the Tractor Boys are winless in their last five league games.
Roberts admitted that Ipswich have had an unbelievable first half of the season and stressed that the Blues have performed brilliantly so far.
However, the former Championship star stated that he does not think that Ipswich have enough strength and depth in their squad to finish in the top two.
“I won’t go without mention of Ipswich”, Roberts wrote in his Pinkun column.
“They have hit a bit of a bump after an unbelievable first half to the season.
“I’ve seen them a few times, been really impressed. They score for fun, but all of a sudden they have drawn blanks against QPR and Stoke.
“They have a few injuries and they haven’t got the strength and depth they need. Leeds and Southampton are slowly making up ground.
“I don’t think they will finish second – the effort they put in their performances is absolutely magnificent, but that takes its toll over a 46-game season.
“I just think they will run out of steam to finish in the top two.”
Ipswich are set to take on AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup on Saturday before they face sixth-placed Sunderland on 13th January.
