Marseille still need to offload an attacker before they can conclude a deal to sign Nottingham Forest target Giovanni Reyna ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.

Reyna is expected to leave Borussia Dortmund before the transfer window closes next Wednesday.

Nottingham Forest have been in talks with Dortmund over potentially signing him on loan with an option to buy.

However, Marseille have taken the lead in the race to sign the United States international and are closing in on a deal.

It has been claimed that Marseille, Dortmund and Reyna are close to reaching an agreement for the midfielder to move to France but according to French radio station RMC Sport, a key element is still missing.

Marseille are pushing to sign Reyna but it has been suggested that they still need to offload an attacker.

The French giants need to make space in their squad and wage bill before Reyna can be signed.

Forest are still in the fray for the US midfielder but for the moment, Marseille have the edge in the race.
