Chelsea and Newcastle United are not giving up in rivalling Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of Club Brugge attacker Antonio Nusa.

Spurs have been working to sign Nusa and were hoping to get in ahead of the competition to seal a deal which would then see him loaned back to Club Brugge to see out the season.

However, no agreement has yet been reached with the Belgians and it is Brentford who are currently considered to be in pole position in the race.

According to Belgian daily Het Nieuwsblad, Chelsea and Newcastle are not waving the white flag in the hunt for Nusa though.

Both Premier League sides want the attacker and are lurking, ready to swoop in.

The situation is good news for Club Brugge, who are set to drive the hardest possible deal and will achieve their aim of a package worth over €30m.

Club Brugge are determined that Nusa will not leave the club this month though.

As such, any agreement to sell Nusa now would also have to see the victorious club agree to loan him back to Club Brugge until the summer.
