Bristol City technical director Brian Tinnion has revealed that Celtic and Rangers transfer target Tommy Conway is important for the Robins and they will work hard to tie him down to a new contract.

A product of Bristol City’s youth academy, Conway has proven his worth at senior level after having to go out on two separate loan spells initially.

This season, he has featured in 23 of his club’s 30 Championship games and his performances have succeeded in catching the attention of clubs up north.

Both Glasgow giants Celtic and Rangers have shown keen interest in Conway, who will have just a year to run on his current contract once this season ends.

Tinnion insists that the desire of the club is to get the player contracted with the Robins on a long-term basis, in the process ending any possible interest in him.

“Tommy Conway has a year in the summer and we need to try and get him tied down, and we’ll work really hard on that”, Tinnon told BBC Radio Bristol.

“But apart from Tommy and the three lads, we have everyone contracted in a really stable squad.

“We’ve had the conversations with the agent and [we want] to have those conversations, and with Tommy, again.

“We want Tommy Conway contracted to the football club. He’s a fantastic person, he’s a fantastic player, he’s a goalscorer and he’s really important to us.

“So we’ll be working really hard from now to get Tommy contracted to the football club.”

It remains to be seen if Celtic and Rangers will work to tempt Conway to Scotland when the transfer window opens in the summer.
