Barry Ferguson has admitted that he could see Aberdeen offering Neil Warnock a permanent role if he does well until the end of the season.
Barry Robson was sacked towards the end of last month and Aberdeen have brought in Warnock on an interim basis until the end of the season.
The Dons are hoping to appoint a permanent manager by the end of the campaign and are now backing Warnock to steady the ship at Pittodrie in the next few months.
Ferguson stressed the importance of Aberdeen getting their next appointment right as he feels the club have made too many mistakes when it comes to identifying their managers.
The former Scotland midfielder believes Warnock has a good chance of getting a permanent role as well if he does well from now until the end of the season.
Ferguson said on the Go Radio Football Show: “Aberdeen need to get this next manager right.
“I know he is a stop-gap at this moment and is just here until the end of the season.
“I would hazard a guess if he does well, he would get offered the job.
“But Aberdeen over the years have made too many mistakes with their managers and they need to sort it.”
Warnock amassed vast experience managing clubs in the Premier League and the Championship in England and is hoping to make an impact north of the border with Aberdeen.
