Former Scotland midfielder Barry Ferguson has insisted that the fate of the Scottish Premiership title could still hinge on the remaining two games between Celtic and Rangers this season.

Philippe Clement’s Rangers side have now cut the gap to Celtic at the top of the table and if they win their game in hand will be level on points.

Rangers have been trying to gun down a Celtic side who have shown frailties in terms of performances and results in recent weeks.

Ferguson admitted that Rangers are now in a good position to go and win the league title but he is still expecting to see more twists and turns in a race, which he feels will go down to the wire.

The former Scotland star thinks that the destination of the title could well end up being decided by the remaining games between Celtic and Rangers.

Ferguson said on the Go Radio Football Show: “I think they [Rangers] are in a good place.

“I have been open and honest about it, in terms of Rangers closing the gap and I think it is really going to go down to the wire, I firmly believe that.

“I still think there will be a couple of points here and there but the big ones are the two Old Firm games.”

Celtic came out on top against Rangers in the last derby clash between the two clubs, but when the two play again Clement will have had longer to work with his side.
