Crystal Palace have considered a move to bring in former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui in the summer, but he would want a big budget and to dictate signings policy, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The Eagles would like to see Roy Hodgson hang on until the end of the season and then appoint his replacement.

Former Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper is a strong contender to become the next Crystal Palace manager, while Paulo Fonseca and Kieran McKenna are also options.

Lopetegui, who was recently in charge of Wolves, is another possibility for Palace.

However, the Spaniard has clear demands over what he would want to take over at Selhurst Park.

He is clear that budget provided to him in the summer would need to be substantial, while he would also want to be allowed to choose the players the club sign.

Whether those terms would be acceptable for Crystal Palace is unclear, but Lopetegui wants to make sure when he takes his next job it gives him the best chance of success.

He has also been linked with the job at Bayer Leverkusen if Liverpool linked Xabi Alonso leaves the club at the end of this season.
