Former Scotland striker Andy Walker has outlined the difference in moods between the Celtic and Rangers fans going into the latter half of the season.

Celtic are unbeaten in nine games and are still sitting at the top of the Scottish Premiership standings.

However, the mood around the club is sombre and the fans have been left underwhelmed by some of their recent performances.

Rangers could go top of the league this week if they beat Ross County by a three-goal margin on Wednesday and the mood around the blue side of Glasgow is much more optimistic.

Walker stressed that the Rangers fans can see that the club are trying their best to make sure that they can compete with Celtic, while the Bhoys fans have been bemoaning the team’s performances and the lack of ambition in the transfer window.

The former Scotland star said on the Go Radio Football Show: “It’s one of the reasons why the Rangers fans are very optimistic.

“They have seen their club do a bit of business, they brought in players, and they are giving themselves the best possible chance to go and fight Celtic for the title.

“And there is a feel-good element amongst the Rangers support.

“You just don’t feel that in the Celtic support; they are very critical of so many aspects – the way the team have played and the lack of transfer activity.”

Celtic and Rangers will be squaring off against each other two more times in the league before the end of the season.
