Former Scotland star Barry Ferguson has insisted that David Moyes remains a good manager and criticism of him at West Ham United is unfair.

Moyes is under pressure again at West Ham following an embarrassing 6-0 home defeat at the hands of Arsenal over the weekend.

The Hammers are still sitting eighth in the Premier League but are without a league win in their last five games.

West Ham have put a hold on talks over a new contract with the Scotsman’s current deal set to run out at the end of the season.

Ferguson admitted that the defeat against Arsenal was unlike a Moyes team as they are often defensively more resolute.

However, he does not understand the criticism his countryman is getting given West Ham finished in the top ten again last season and won the Europa Conference League.

The former midfielder said on the Go Radio Football Show: “Very unlike his teams as defensively they are very strong.

“But three goals in six minutes in the first half killed them.

“Again, the criticism he gets at times is unfair and I think he has done a brilliant job at West Ham – finishing in the top ten and winning a European trophy last season.

“I think he is a terrific manager.”

Moyes will hope to pick up the pieces soon and help West Ham to get out of their current rut.
