Chris Sutton admitted that Norwich City have managed to surprise him by doing well in recent tough fixtures.

On Tuesday, Norwich defeated Watford 4-2 at Carrow Road to climb up to seventh place in the Championship table.

The Canaries are in good form and have managed to take points from their promotion rivals Southampton, West Bromwich Albion, Hull City and Coventry City in recent games.

Sutton admitted that he is surprised by Norwich’s performances in recent tough fixtures and believes that David Wagner has found a way to win important games.

The ex-Norwich star pointed out that sitting deep in their own half and playing counter attacking football is not a brand of football that Norwich are associated with, but he admits that it is working for Wagner.

“I’m pleasantly surprised about the run the team have been on”, Sutton wrote in his Eastern Daily Press column.

They’ve had testing fixtures, and they’ve done really well.

“You have to find a way and Wagner has done that.

“As I’ve said previously, I don’t think Norwich should be sitting off teams or counter-attacking.

“That is not the history of the club that I remember. But it’s worked.”

Norwich will welcome Cardiff City to Carrow Road at the weekend before they travel to Ewood Park to face Blackburn Rovers on 24th February.
