Sunderland will put Mike Dodds in charge until the end of the season after sacking Michael Beale, according to Sky Sports News.

The Black Cats sacked popular manager Tony Mowbray to make way for ex-Rangers man Beale earlier this season in a move which raised some eyebrows.

Beale has lasted just 12 games in the dugout though and Sunderland are showing him the door after being less than convinced by his work.

The Black Cats have to plan for the rest of the season, with finishing in a playoff spot in the Championship still a possibility.

They will not though move to bring in a replacement for Beale, with a decision on the immediate future having been made.

Sunderland will instead turn to Dodds, who was caretaker boss earlier this season.

Dodds will be in charge of Sunderland until the end of the season, giving the club time to make a decision on what they want to do.

It remains to be seen if Dodds can impress enough in the hot seat to put himself in the running to take the job permanently.
