Liverpool have ‘zero interest’ in appointing Manchester United target Jason Wilcox, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Southampton’s director of football has been linked with leaving St Mary’s, with Manchester United thought likely to be his destination.

However, it was recently suggested that Liverpool had agreed a compensation deal with Southampton for Wilcox and were moving to appoint him.

That talk now appears wide of the mark, with it claimed that Liverpool have ‘zero interest’ in bringing in Wilcox.

Liverpool are instead moving to appoint Benfica’s technical director, Pedro Marques.

It is unclear what job title Liverpool will hand Marques and his exact responsibilities, but it is thought he will take charge of player pathways and development.

The Portuguese has impressed with his work at Benfica and Liverpool want him as part of their post Jurgen Klopp reshape.

Liverpool’s move leaves Manchester United free to wrap up a deal with Southampton for Wilcox to head to Old Trafford.
