Sheffield United target Chris Mepham is travelling to Wearside to undergo a medical with Sunderland ahead of a loan switch, according to Sky Sports News.
Mepham has been expected to leave Bournemouth this summer as has not been part of their plans at the start of the season.
Sheffield United have been holding talks with the Premier League side to sign him and the defender is prepared to drop down to the Championship.
However, the centre-back is on his way to the north east of England rather than Sheffield at the moment.
Sunderland have swooped in and have worked out an agreement over a deal to sign him on a straight loan from the Cherries.
Mepham is prepared to join the Black Cats and is travelling to Sunderland at the moment.
He is scheduled to undergo a medical with the club ahead of signing a loan contract with Sunderland.
The Championship side are set to beat Sheffield United to the signature of Mepham in the coming hours.
