Luca Toni, who was shut out of the Bayern Munich squad after his public rant to German media a few months ago, displayed his goal-scoring prowess to Roma supporters after an impressive brace against Genoa at the weekend. His move to the Italian capital, which was just recently concluded, was, apart from an escape from the German giants, also an attempt to remain in the watchful eye of Italy coach Marcelo Lippi.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports Toni saying, “Lippi knows what I can give the national team. I know that I will do more good for Roma and that will boost my chances of getting back into the Italy squad. For me the important thing now is to score plenty of goals to help Roma. We started strong this season, and we have started the second half of the campaign impressively.”

Roma are third in the league, nine points behind Serie A leaders Inter Milan, and two points behind weekend opponents Juventus. The Giallorossi go into the match in remarkable form, having remained unbeaten in the last ten games.
