AC Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri has taken comfort in the fact that the Rossoneri’s run to the last 16 of the Champions League has shown the side are still competitive in Europe.

Allegri’s men could only manage a 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane with Tottenham Hotspur last night, a result which was not enough to overturn a first leg loss of 1-0 that came two weeks ago.

Yet the coach was taking the positives, despite admitting elimination was a bitter pill to swallow.

"I feel bitter about the elimination", admitted Allegri. "We didn’t manage to progress, but failure is part of football. We couldn’t score, because we got the last touches wrong.

"However, the performance showed by the team mirrors our good form."

And Allegri continued by saying that at least Milan had sent a message out about their ability to be competitive.

"We did our duty tonight. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to qualify for the next round, but at least we showed the team is alive and kicking. This performance was proof that we’re competitive also in the Champions League."
