Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is refusing to be downbeat heading into their FA Cup clash with Arsenal today, despite the fact that in the space of two weeks the Scot has seen his side beaten by both Chelsea and Liverpool.

Ferguson was asked if he had any sympathy for his opposite number at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger, who himself has endured a rocky period, losing the Carling Cup final to Birmingham City and then being dumped out of the Champions League by Barcelona.

"I’ve got sympathy for myself!", said Ferguson. "I’ve had a bad week."

But the Scot said he is still positive because there remain many opportunities for United to be successful before the season’s end.

"But you’ve got to look forward. We’ve got big opportunities and a lot of challenges ahead for the rest of the season. It’s terrific to be involved at this time of year, when every game you play is of importance. We have Tuesday’s match against Marseille and then we have Bolton in a league game. It goes on and on. That’s why you have to be involved in March."

Ferguson can deal another big blow to title rivals Arsenal by putting them out of the FA Cup today. The psychological impact of going out of three competitions in quick succession on the Gunners will not be something the United boss will underestimate.
