Louis van Gaal believes that winning the Champions League with Bayern Munich would be the perfect way to end his time at the Allianz Arena.
Van Gaal is to leave Bayern at the end of the season following differences with the club’s board over how the side should move forward. This season has seen the Munich-based club slip well behind Borussia Dortmund in the title race and also head out of the German Cup to Schalke.
However, the Champions League, a competition Bayern reached the final of last season, offers Van Gaal a chance of redemption and the opportunity to head out on a high. Asked what would happen if the Germans won the tournament, Van Gaal responded: "In that case, we’ll party, me just like the fans, then I’ll go for a sabbatical and Bayern will continue with another coach."
And Van Gaal has high hopes of seeing off Inter tonight, heading into the Allianz Arena game with a 1-0 lead.
"The UEFA delegate told me that there is only one team who has overturned a home defeat in a knockout round of the Champions League", said the Dutchman.
