Sources in Russia suggest that Spartak Moscow have identified Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Niko Kranjcar as the perfect addition to their side.

Spartak are traditionally the most successful club in Russia's Premier League, but have long been dislodged by emerging powers CSKA Moscow, Zenit St. Petersburg and Rubin Kazan.

Now however, owner Leonid Fedun is prepared to bankroll the arrival of another major talent, having snapped up Aiden McGeady from Celtic for £9.5M last summer, in the hopes of pushing the side forward this season.

And Kranjcar is a realistic target for the Luzhniki Stadium outfit, with the Croatian unhappy at a lack of regular first team football at White Hart Lane. Indeed, it was felt Kranjcar might leave Spurs in the January transfer window, although he snubbed interest from Germany and stayed put.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp can expect to field a bid from the Russians which should come close to the €10M the London club value Kranjcar at.
