Manchester United are believed to be closing in on a deal for Borussia Dortmund’s talented young midfielder Mario Gotze.

The Red Devils have been linked with the 18-year-old for some time, although Dortmund have always appeared reluctant to part with their budding star and will hold out for top dollar.

United however, are thought to be putting the finishing touches to a bid which would see the Ruhr club receive some €25M for Gotze, an amount that Jurgen Klopp’s side would find extremely difficult to refuse.

Gotze is under contract with Dortmund until 2014 and has enjoyed a superb campaign this season, making 26 Bundesliga appearances for the table-toppers, finding the back of the net four times and providing ten assists.

Labelled "one of the best players we’ve ever had", by German FA technical director Matthias Sammer, Gotze made his senior Germany debut against Sweden in November last year.
