AC Milan were celebrating last night after beating Inter 3-0 in the Milan derby to extend their lead over their bitter rivals at the top of Serie A. But coach Massimiliano Allegri has warned his players not to believe the victory has already handed them the title.
The Rossoneri raced into the lead in the game after Alexandre Pato scored in the first minute. That settled nerves for Milan, and when Christian Chivu saw red for Inter in the 54th minute, the contest looked more straightforward. Pato added a second after 62 minutes and then Antonio Cassano fired home from the penalty spot to make it 3-0 in the 90th minute. Cassano did receive a red card though after a second bookable offence in the dying seconds.
"This win is not decisive for the title", said Allegri post-match, "but we managed to widen the gap with Inter.
"We did not play like we should have in the first half, but we played very well in the second half. We deserved to win and I am particularly pleased with the performances of Alexandre Pato and Clarence Seedorf."
With just seven games left Milan now enjoy a five-point cushion over Inter.
