Udinese are preparing to allow highly-rated shot-stopper Samir Handanovic to leave the club if they do not manage to qualify for next season’s Champions League. And could even have to field bids if they do make Europe’s showpiece competition.
Sitting fourth in the table, the southern Italian side look on course to take the last Champions League spot, but they do face fierce opposition from Lazio (just two points behind) and Roma (six points behind).
And while Udinese will do all they can to ensure qualification, if the side miss out then Handanovic will surely be on his way, with clubs such as Arsenal, Juventus, Manchester United and Schalke all eyeing the 26-year-old Slovenian.
Udinese themselves have turned their attention to Argentine keeper Franco Costanzo. The 30-year-old currently turns out for Swiss giants FC Basel, but would no doubt jump at the prospect of a move to Serie A.
While bids would be expected for Handanovic whatever happens, Udinese would feel more confident of keeping hold of the Slovenia star if they can offer him Champions League football.
