Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has refused to be drawn on whether the Old Trafford side are chasing Udinese winger Alexis Sanchez.
The Scottish boss watched on with pleasure last night as his side put Chelsea out of the Champions League, recording a comfortable 2-1 victory to win the quarter-final tie 3-1 on aggregate. For United, who were rarely threatened, it was a good night’s work.
But Ferguson was also questioned afterwards about whether reports that United are seriously interested in buying Sanchez from Udinese are accurate. The Scot’s side are thought to be engaged in a transfer battle with Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter for the player.
"I won’t comment", said Ferguson when asked, before adding: "but we are interested in many players."
Indeed, the evidence United are keen on Sanchez keeps growing, with Ferguson’s brother Martin having attended Udinese’s weekend game against Roma; Sanchez missed that one though, picking up an injury in the pre-match warm-up.
