Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs has dismissed criticism that the side are set to win the Premier League, and possibly the Champions League, without ever really hitting top gear.

United will clinch a record 19th top flight title if they gain a point from their last two games – Blackburn (away), Blackpool (home) – and are in the final of the Champions League where they will meet Barcelona on 28th May.

And it has been suggested that the feats would be ill-deserved with Sir Alex Ferguson’s side not having to really play at their very best to get there. It is a charge Giggs dismisses though and is not worrying about.

"To be honest, it [the criticism] doesn’t really bother me", said Giggs to MUTV.

"We all concede that, in the first half of the season, we were not really playing brilliantly, but we were getting results.

"The second half of the season, after Christmas, we’ve been brilliant. The performances have been brilliant and so have the results. We’ve played some great stuff in both the European games and in the league, so we don’t really care what people say. We know the quality in the dressing room and so does the manager."
