Galatasaray have won the race for Bolton Wanderers striker Johan Elmander, who is out of contract at the end of this season.

The Turkish side had announced the news on their website last week, but the Swede had not put pen to paper on a deal, agreeing the move only in principle. However, it is now believed that the 29-year-old has fully committed to the Istanbul club and will move to Turkey on a three-year contract this summer.

Signing Elmander is a vital first step in Galatasaray’s process of rebuilding after a disappointing season. Having expected to battle for the Super Lig title, Galatasaray have instead found themselves often closer to the relegation places than the top of the table and look set to end a thoroughly forgettable campaign mired in mid-table.

The Turkish club hope to follow up the capture of Elmander with more signings in order to ensure they are once again at the right end of the league next season.
