Manchester United full back Patrice Evra has explained that he has been trying to persuade Edwin van der Sar to go back on his decision to retire.
The Dutch goalkeeper has still been performing at the top of his game, despite the fact that the clock is ticking down on his career. For Evra however, there is no reason why Van der Sar could not have continued playing for another two years, until he is 42.
"Every day I see him and I wind him up about it again", said the Frenchman.
"Edwin does not have to stop. He could certainly have another two years and is also the leader of our defence. If we win the Champions League, then the best news would be that he stays."
Evra’s pleas look set to fall on deaf ears though as Van der Sar looks unlikely to do a U-turn on his decision to call time on what has been a glittering career. United too are making plans for the future, closing on the signature of Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David de Gea.
