Mark Hughes has denied fielding an approach from Aston Villa to become the Midlands club’s new boss, despite the Welshman having decided to resign as Fulham manager.
Hughes has been linked with Villa, following talk that he felt he had taken Fulham as far as possible and the former Blackburn boss did indeed confirm that ambition was behind his choosing to depart Craven Cottage.
"As a young, ambitious manager I wish to move on to further my experiences", said Hughes.
"I would also like to take this opportunity to clarify that neither myself nor my representative have approached or have been approached by another club."
For Fulham the loss of Hughes is a big blow after the Welshman slotted into the dugout at the club with ease, leading the London side to a top 10 finish in the Premier League last season.
The Cottagers now find themselves once again looking for a manager after Roy Hodgson left the side to join Liverpool last summer.
