FC Porto have acted quickly to fill the void left by the departure of Andre Villas-Boas by appointing Vitor Pereira as the club’s new coach.

The 42-year-old served as Villas-Boas’ assistant last season, helping Porto to their spectacular unbeaten season in the Portuguese league as well as winning the Europa League.

And Porto president Pinto da Costa is keen not to veer off the course Villas-Boas laid down, putting Pereira as a continuity appointment.

Formerly the coach of Santa Clara, Pereira joined Villas-Boas’ staff last year and is rated highly at the Portuguese giants.

The new coach faces a tough task to live up to the standards set by Villas-Boas however.
