Real Madrid legend Fernando Hierro has joined the ranks at ambitious La Liga club Malaga.

The former defender has taken the position of general manager at the Qatari-owned club, which is currently coached by another former Real Madrid man – Manuel Pellegrini.

Hierro had, until recently, held the position of sporting director with the Spanish FA, but exited that post last month.

The Spaniard has been persuaded to join Malaga’s revolution, and the club continue to splash the cash, having notably brought in Ruud van Nistelrooy and Joaquin so far this summer.

Hierro has described his new challenge as "exciting".
