Reports from Italy suggest that Inter may move for Angel di Maria if Samuel Eto’o heads to Anzhi Makhachkala.

Eto’o has a lucrative contract offer on the table from the rich Russian side, one which would hand him €20M a year in wages and Inter a €40M transfer fee; for the 30-year-old striker this is not easy to turn down and Anzhi are confident they can get their man.

But this will leave Inter with a replacement to find and, with Diego Milito or Giampaolo Pazzini ready to be deployed in the centre of an attacking unit, Di Maria could be an option for the right hand side.

The Argentine moved to Real Madrid from Benfica last summer and though he showed definite flashes of brilliance at the Bernabeu last season, was inconsistent at times.

However, Jose Mourinho is known to continue to trust the Argentine and tempting Di Maria from Real Madrid would be a difficult operation.

It does seem though that Inter are exploring all avenues in order not to be caught short when the transfer window closes at the end of this month.
