Sources in Holland have insisted that Ajax are not on the verge of selling highly-rated Danish schemer Christian Eriksen to Manchester United.

It had been widely reported that Sir Alex Ferguson’s men were pushing ahead with a swoop for the 20-year-old and that Ajax were willing to part with Eriksen.

However, Frank de Boer’s side are planning to keep hold of the technically gifted youngster and are not in talks with Manchester United to sell the player, despite knowing that Eriksen is much admired at Old Trafford.

The Eredivisie champions have already lost one of their most influential players of last season in defender Jan Vertonghen, who was sold to Tottenham Hotspur with just a year left on his contract.

A question mark had been placed over Eriksen’s future too when Ajax stitched up a deal for Lasse Schone, another Danish midfielder with similarities to his countryman.

However, Ajax have insisted that Schone was not brought in from NEC to replace Eriksen.

The Dutch giants are firmly in the driving seat with regards to Eriksen’s future as the player remains under contact at the Amsterdam ArenA until 2014.
