Athletic Bilbao are pricing Javi Martinez out of the market Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes.

Martinez is wanted by a number of clubs, chief amongst them Barcelona and Bayern Munich, who each would like to snap up the 23-year-old this summer.

But Athletic Bilbao do not wish to part with the defensive midfielder and have warned off suitors by standing firm to their position of making the Spaniard unavailable for transfer.

And so the only way to have any chance of signing Martinez would be to pay his buy-out clause, which sits at €40M.

"I am not optimistic", Rummenigge told TZ when asked about Martinez’ potential arrival at the Allianz Arena.

"Their president has always stressed that he wants to keep the player and does not want to sell, even for the clause price.

"There is no club in Europe that is willing to pay that price.

"I maintain a good relationship with Barcelona and Barcelona are not ready to offer this amount. We’re talking about an amazingly high price."
