Feyenoord coach Ronald Koeman has urged Aston Villa to provide some clarity over Ron Vlaar’s future.

The Dutch defender visited Villa Park last weekend with his agent, and the blessing of Feyenoord, and held talks with the English club’s manager Paul Lambert.

Vlaar felt the conversation went well and returned to Holland with a positive impression of the Midlands outfit.

A bid was quickly expected to arrive from Aston Villa, but instead the lines of contact went dead, with Vlaar not knowing where he stands and Feyenoord unsure whether the player will or will not move to England.

For Koeman, the situation is now affecting his pre-season preparations.

"It is good when you invite a player and give him a positive feeling, but it seems to me that then you need to try a direct transfer and complete it if you want the player", Koeman told NUsport.

"They have so much money but they do not pay for him", added the former Barcelona defender.

"I need to gradually know where I stand. If it can’t be guaranteed that Ron continues here, then in the final friendly matches I will play without him in the centre of the defence."
