Manchester City have confirmed the agreement of a deal with Everton for young midfielder Jack Rodwell.

The Premier League champions have been keen to add fresh faces to their squad and have thrashed out a fee, which is undisclosed, with the Toffees for the highly rated 21-year-old.

Rodwell is now due to have a medical with the Citizens later today and, barring any last minute hitches, will become Roberto Mancini’s first signing of the summer.

And the Italian is delighted to be capturing Rodwell.

"We consider Jack Rodwell to be a good, young player", Mancini was quoted as saying on the BBC.

"He will be an important midfielder for the England national team and for us.

"We need someone who wants to win, is good tactically and is a good player for the future."

Rodwell’s arrival could add more question marks over Holland midfielder Nigel de Jong. The Dutchman is out of contract at Manchester City next summer and has not yet penned a fresh deal.
