Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is relishing having Robin van Persie at his disposal and expects to see the Dutchman in action for the Red Devils on Monday evening.
Ferguson takes his men to Goodison Park to face Everton on Monday, as Manchester United begin their campaign to seize the Premier League title back from Manchester City.
All eyes will be on Van Persie, who is putting the finishing touches to a big money move to Old Trafford from Arsenal.
“He is on his way up for a medical later this afternoon”, said Ferguson at a press conference held to announce bwin as the club’s betting partner.
“We hope that goes according to plan.
“His agent is in discussions with David Gill [Man Utd CEO, ed.] right about now.
“We hope things are tied up, although medicals do sometimes take a bit longer. I’m sure he’ll be available for Monday’s game.”
Ferguson also explained that he is excited about Manchester United’s attacking options, in which he sees echoes of great striking forces of the past.
“In 1999 I had Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole, Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the four best strikers in Europe.
“We are going towards that now with Javier Hernandez, Wayne Rooney, Robin, Danny Welbeck and Shinji Kagawa. It is a fantastic selection of players and hopefully I pick the right combinations.”
