Midfielder Jean Makoun has explained that he did his homework on Rennes before agreeing to sign for the French club.
Makoun has joined the Ligue 1 outfit on a season-long loan from Aston Villa, with Rennes having the opportunity to buy him at the end of that period.
The 29-year-old joined Aston Villa in January 2011, but struggled to cement a spot in the starting eleven and spent last season on loan at Greek giants Olympiacos.
Now Makoun is on the move once again, although Ligue 1 is familiar territory for the midfield enforcer, given that he has already turned out for Lille and Lyon in the league.
"I had very good impressions when finding out about the club", Makoun told Rennes’ official website.
"I’ve had very good feedback from my fellow Cameroonians who have played here, such as Stephane Mbia and Georges Mandjeck. I also found Pierre Dreossi. He made me sign my first contract at Lille.
"Now I’ll have to undergo physical training and work hard to earn a spot on the pitch.
"I cannot wait to play in Ligue 1 again."
