Juventus interim coach Massimo Carrera is delighted that the Italian champions did not sign Dimitar Berbatov from Manchester United, branding the Bulgarian "unreliable".

Berbatov had seemed set for Italy before the transfer window closed, with initially Fiorentina and then Juventus believed to be his destinations.

First Fiorentina had a bid for the 31-year-old accepted by Manchester United, but Berbatov did not turn up in Florence as scheduled, despite La Viola paying for his flight. And then Juventus moved to secure the forward and were confident that he was coming to Turin.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker though turned up at Fulham and signed for Martin Jol’s Cottagers on transfer deadline day, stunning the Bianconeri.

Now Carrera has insisted it is better that he did not land at the Serie A giants.

"I have never experienced such a situation", said the Juventus interim boss.

"Now I know what happened, I am glad that he did not come to us", he added.

"Berbatov is an unreliable player."

Juventus did acquire a striker before the transfer window closed, bringing in Nicklas Bendtner on a season-long loan from Arsenal.
