Legendary Brazilian midfielder Rivaldo has told his countryman Neymar to leave for Europe – and to do so immediately.
Neymar still turns out for Santos in his homeland and the striker has pledged to remain at the club until at least 2014, which would set him up for a switch after that year’s World Cup, which Brazil will host.
relatedNewsStoryWhen Neymar does decide he is ready to move to Europe, he will not be short of potential destinations.
Chief amongst the Brazilian’s suitors are Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, while Champions League winners Chelsea and wealthy French outfit Paris Saint-Germain have both been credited with holding an interest in the 20-year-old.
For Rivaldo though, who counts European powerhouses AC Milan and Barcelona among his former clubs, waiting until 2014 to move is leaving it too late, and Neymar should make the switch immediately.
"Neymar must leave Brazil and his family", commented Rivaldo.
"He has to go to Europe to gain experience.
"He is going to play in a World Cup.
"And the best way to prepare for that is to play against the best players."
Rivaldo also suggested that Neymar’s promising contemporaries should also leave Brazil for Europe, although Lucas Moura has already agreed a transfer and will join Paris Saint-Germain in January.
"Neymar, Ganso and Lucas should go to Europe as soon as possible", concluded Rivaldo.
