Atletico Madrid are planning to start talks over renewing coach Diego Simeone’s contract, according to Spanish daily El Mundo Deportivo.
Simeone has worked wonders at the Vicente Calderon since arriving in December last year and the club want to reward the Argentine and also give his project a vote of confidence.
And so, Atletico will use the opportunity afforded by Spanish football’s winter break to talk with Simeone about a new deal at the club.
With the Argentine happy at the Vicente Calderon, the expectation is that an agreement can quickly be found between club and coach.
Simeone led Atletico to the Europa League last season, despite taking over midway through the campaign.
To signal the start of the present season, he steered the club to thrash Chelsea 4-1 in the UEFA Super Cup, with a memorable hat-trick from Radamel Falcao.
Atletico have also had an impressive first period in La Liga, keeping pace with Barcelona until last weekend, when they suffered defeat away at Valencia.

That makes the possibility of Atletico coming into the Madrid derby against Real in December ahead of their rivals a concrete one.
