Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has declared there to be all to play for in Group B of the Champions League after his side could only draw against Schalke in Germany last night.
Wenger’s men raced into a 2-0 lead over Schalke, but were ultimately pegged back as the home side struck through first Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and then Jefferson Farfan to claim a share of the spoils.
The draw also keeps Schalke in control of the group, with eight points from four matches, one ahead of Arsenal in second, while Olympiacos sit third on six points and Montpellier prop up the section with just a single point.
It leaves much to play for in the remaining two games, when Arsenal will be aiming to beat Montpellier at the Emirates Stadium and then negotiate a tricky trip to Greece on the final matchday.
And so, Wenger understands that Group B is very open, with Arsenal needing to do the heavy lifting in their last two matches.
"It’s open. We are of course in a position where we want to win our home game. If we win, we have a 50 per cent chance of going through because Schalke play Olympiacos here", the Frenchman told his club’s official site.
"They are in a position where they have absolutely to win that game as well.
relatedNewsStory"It will of course depend on our result first against Montpellier and then we will see what happens here.
"It could go to last game, we could, with luck, do it in the next game. Anyway, we are in a position where we must win against Montpellier."
The Gunners will be hoping Schalke can put Olympiacos to the sword in their next game, as travelling to Greece to face an Olympiacos side knowing a win would take them through looks a tall order.
However, Wenger’s men now switch their attention back to the Premier League, where they will be bidding to bounce back from last weekend’s loss away at Manchester United when they face Fulham at the Emirates Stadium.
