Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers knows that signing new players in the January transfer window will be a difficult task, but he insists his scouting team are scouring the world in search of available talent.

Rodgers began to target the winter window almost as soon as the summer transfer window closed, with his failure to replace striker Andy Carroll, a player he allowed to join West Ham on a season-long loan, leaving the Reds thin on the ground in terms of goalscoring talent.

Liverpool suffered a further blow with Italian forward Fabio Borini being ruled out for three months with a broken bone in his foot.

The burden has fallen heavily upon Uruguayan Luis Suarez and Rodgers is keen to give the striker some support, while other areas of the team are also ones he would like to strengthen.

He is aware though that signing top players midway through a season is certainly tough.

"The plan is to reinforce the group", Rodgers told his club’s official site.

"The concentration now is purely on the group of players we have, but we have to plan ahead and our colleagues back at the club and recruitment team are scouring the world in relation to trying to get players who can come in and improve our squad", he continued.

relatedNewsStory"January is always a difficult window, however we want to improve the group and we know there are certain areas we have to improve the squad."

Rodgers will be hoping for a second half of the season surge if Liverpool cannot pick up pace before the new year.

Currently the side sit a lowly 12th in the Premier League table, a position which would have placed most previous Liverpool managers under serious job pressure.

Rafael Benitez was sacked in 2010 for a seventh place finish, Gerard Houllier shown the door in 2004 for finishing fourth, while Roy Evans was relieved of sole control for coming third in 1998.
