Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs has explained the side wanted to right the wrongs of last year in the Champions League, after a 3-1 win away at Braga sent them through to the knockout stage.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s men fell behind in Portugal after Alan converted from the penalty spot in the 49th minute.
As the clock ticked down, it did appear that 1-0 was how the game might finish, but Ferguson had other ideas and threw on Robin van Persie in the 64th minute.
The Dutchman eventually got Manchester United back on level terms, scoring with ten minutes left, but there was even better to come.
Further goals from Wayne Rooney (penalty, 85th minute) and Javier Hernandez (90th minute), completed the victory, giving the Red Devils 12 points from four Champions League games and making no mistake when it comes to booking passage to the Round of 16.
For Giggs, it was putting something right which went wrong last year, when Manchester United could not make it past the group stage and dropped into the Europa League.
"I think we were all disappointed [we didn’t progress from the group stage last year]", Giggs told the BBC.
relatedNewsStory"It was not good enough and we knew we had to do something about it and we have.
"Long may it continue."
Ferguson can now afford to rest players for his side’s final two group games, with focus able to be given to the Premier League.
Nevertheless, the Scot is sure to want to continue Manchester United’s winning run and head into the Round of 16 in style.
